Our Lebanese-Armenian Origins

As early as the 17th century, Armenians seeking refuge have been finding their way to the shores of Lebanon. These Armenian émigrés brought with them exotic spices and warming flavours, adding their unique touch to Lebanese culinary heritage.

Lebanese-Armenian cuisine has become a celebrated tradition, made up of home recipes passed down from generation to generation: from staple dishes, such as Manti, Suburek and Itch, to global street food sensations, Sujuk and Makanek.

Almayass by the Sea:
Home To Our Authentic Cuisine

Named after the elegant Mays, a tree symbolic of beauty and grace, Almayass by the Sea honours the age-old family recipes that have carved out this unique branch of Mediterranean cuisine.

First opening in Beirut in 1995, and then in Abu Dhabi in 2021, Almayass by the Sea has become a renowned haven for families and food lovers who appreciate authentic cuisine and genuine hospitality. We have also been awarded the Bib Gourmand for three years in a row: a testament to the love and care we put into every dish.

And as for the elegant and inviting atmosphere of our restaurant, it is proudly inspired by our mothers and their mothers, who have always said: All are welcome in this house.
